BOXBAY introduces an innovative High-bay storage system specifically designed to transform the stacking and handling of empty containers in terminal operations. With the ability to stack empty containers up to 16 tiers in a double-deep configuration, supported by a lighter and more efficient crane system, BOXBAY ensures optimal use of vertical space. The system offers flexible interfaces at each aisle end, making it compatible with all types of Internal Terminal Vehicles (ITVs) and enabling seamless integration with both manual and automated equipment. Additionally, the system’s smaller stack sizes allow for better separation into multiple categories, improving operational accuracy and efficiency.

Modular and scalable configurations

BOXBAY has interface options for all conceivable waterside and landside transport systems. It was developed as a configurable modular solution with two basic configurations, namely SIDE-GRID® and TOP-GRID®, both of which use the same building blocks and equipment. The HYBRID-GRID® combines features of both the SIDE-GRID® and TOP-GRID® configurations, leveraging their shared modular design and equipment to provide a flexible solution for various operational requirements.

Both the SIDE-GRID® and TOP-GRID® variants have a similar landside interface to the road trucks, which is arranged on the landside long side of the warehouse. Transfer cranes placed there are moving containers sidewise to and from road trucks stopping under them. The difference between both variants is the waterside interface. 

SIDE-GRID®

  • SIDE-GRID® complies with configuration of BOXBAY in Dubai
  • SIDE-GRID® has interfaces on both the end faces and the longitudinal sides
  • Trucks are serviced via CPC loops and Truck Transfer Cranes on the longitudinal sides

TOP-GRID®

  • Intended use: for combination with waterside terminal trucks (TT’s) or AGV's / ITV's
  • HBS steel structure lifted above traffic level and accessible from below
  • AGVs or automated trucks operate at ground level beneath the aisles and are serviced directly by the stacker cranes from above

HYBRID-GRID®

  • HYBRID-GRID® combines features of both the TOP-GRID® and SIDE-GRID®
  • AGVs or automated terminal trucks are serviced direct under the HBS
  • Landside truck traffic is handled using CPC loops and truck cranes
